Maggie Smith stars as Miss Shepherd, a homeless woman who "temporarily" parked in the driveway of Alan Bennett's home – and stayed there for 15 years. After inviting herself into Bennett’s house to use the bathroom, she proved impossible to get rid of. Despite her prickly, irascible nature, the neighbourhood quickly warmed to her, and she eventually became an essential part of their lives.
